Album of 1845

Taras Shevchenko

The album contained pictures in pencil, watercolor and sepia, made by Taras Shevchenko during travel to Poltava province and in adjacent areas of Kyiv province in April – October 1845. In this album Shevchenko drawed ancient monuments and art (especially architecture), paying with much attention to the image of rural life, certain types of genre scenes and nature.

In literature the album incorrectly dated by 1843-1845 based on wrongly dated picture "In Gustynja".

The album consists of 20 numbered sheets, size 17,5 × 26,9 cm, containing 35 pictures. Between the first and third sheets are remnants of a sheet, torn from album before numbering, its location is unknown, and whether it contain the picture – unknown too. Face side of sheets 16, 17, 18, 20 and back side of sheets 2, 4, 6 and 7 are clean. Images ranging from back of sheet 15, compared to previous ones, given the inverse.

Bound in yellow-reddish color, spine and corners – leather. Size of frames 18 × 27,5 cm. On the front side frames two paper labels: the top left label with the designation "Ch. G. Z. Museum of Ukraine ancient. V.V. Tarnowski, № 144 III», right at the bottom – with embossed Tarnowski's armcoat and the words kind "№ 2".
