September 21, 1846 Shevchenko went to Volyn and Podillja by the order of Archeographic Commission. Commission had determined the amount of work in Pochaev monastery, namely, "besides this, go to the Pochaev monastery and there draw: a) general external appearance of monastery, b) the interior of the church, and c) view of the neighborhood from the terrace" [«T. Shevchenko in the documents and materials», K., 1950, p. 86].
From drawings made during the trip to Volyn remained four watercolors and sketches in pencil. These pictures were the last of the known works performed by Shevchenko for Archeographic Commission.
