At the bottom left author's date and signature in pencil: 1840 // Shevchenko (first digit and letter "Sh" partially cut). On the back of the mounting sheet inscription by unknown person: Drawed by Shevchenko in 1841 year in Petersburg.
Scientific description and reproduction provided in 1960 by S.E. Raevsky. After the details of military uniform he identified depicted person as Juncker Life Guards Lancer regiment [S. Raevsky Unknown picture T.H. Shevchenko // Soviet Ukraine. – 1960. – March 11].
