Lower left – the date and signature of the author in pencil: 1845. Shevchenko.

In literature somewhere have incorrect dating in 1843 [A. Novitsky. Taras Shevchenko as a painter. – Lviv – Moscow, 1914, Table. 12; L. Karachevska. Exhibition Shevchenko Chernihiv, 1930, p. 17, Part 2, № 7, etc.]

In the Chestahivsky's list for this portrait, registered under number 59, and the portraits at number 57, 58 and 61 made postscript that all of them finished by Shevchenko in Kiev before exile and within 10 years they were in III Division (see watercolors number 128, 129, 306).

In 1929 exposed in an exhibition of works of T. Shevchenko in Chernihiv (Catalogue, p. 17, № 7).
