Taras Shevchenko. Garden at Novopetrovsk fort. Stained paper, watercolor (17.1 × 29 cm). [Novopetrovsk fort]. [Summer 1854]. Taras Shevchenko National Museum, inv. g – 269.
Bottom right by Monogram and date: Sh 1854.
In the center – the house in which Uskov family lived in summer, away – a gazebo, and left the house – Kazakh yurt, one of whom worked Shevchenko.
This picture Shevchenko gifted to Uskov family (see number 33). N. I. Uskova erroneously states that it depicts "commandant garden… in a year of poet departure" – this is in contrary to the author's date and vegetation, much smaller than the number in figures 159, 165.
In the literature is found under the title: "House of commandant fortress" [I. Bryk, Taras Shevchenko memorials in Uskov family, Lviv, 1925, p. 6], "The commandant's house" ["Product painting art Shevchenko, exhibited in Galleries", Kharkiv, 1934, p. 29], "The Novopetrovsk fort" [G. D. Vladimirski, A. N. Savinov, Taras Shevchenko – the artist, L. – M., 1939, Tab. XXII], "Summer house of commander Novopetrovsk fort" [M. Kalaushyn, Taras Shevchenko in portraits and illustrations, L., 1940, p. 134].
On the same subject see number 33 and number 153, 159.
