Taras Shevchenko. Peasants and other sketches. Pencil. [Not before May 1843]. Institute of Literature National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, inv. number 106 (album 1839 – 1843).

Left bottom is marked: 15. Sketch located on the back of the 8th sheet of album 1839 – 1843.

Left – the figure of two peasants, right – four profiles, the figure from the back and the image of the old farmer in profile, ink inscription under it: Father Taras Shevchenko (by indication of Shevchenko himself). This text is not true, because his father Grigory Shevchenko died on the 39 year life (1786 – 1825), when Shevchenko was 11 years, rather this may be a grandfather, Ivan Shvec (approx. 1752 – 28.01.1849), who was alive at the first arrival of Shevchenko in Ukraine.

Dated by time of the first trip Shevchenko in Ukraine.

Storage areas within the Album: no later than 1885 – came to the V.V. Tarnowski's collection; from 1899 – V. Tarnowski's Chernihiv museum of ukrainian antiquities, 1925 – Chernihiv Historical Museum, 1933 – Taras Shevchenko institute; since 1936 – Shevchenko Institute of ukrainian literature.
