Taras Shevchenko. Peasant's court. Sketch for etching. Pencil. [Not before May 1843]. Institute of Literature National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, inv. number 106 (album 1839 – 1843).

Left bottom is marked: 29. Sketch located on the back of the 16th sheet of the album 1839 – 1843. On the front side of the sheet – sketch "Death of Ivan Mazepa".

Left sketch is very close to the final composition of etching, right – barely visible outline of the same scene.

Dated by the time of first trip Shevchenko in Ukraine and his work on the preparation of drawings for "Picturesque Ukraine".

Storage areas within the Album: no later than 1885 – came to the V.V. Tarnowski's collection; from 1899 – V. Tarnowski's Chernihiv museum of ukrainian antiquities, 1925 – Chernihiv Historical Museum, 1933 – Taras Shevchenko institute; since 1936 – Shevchenko Institute of ukrainian literature.
