At the bottom left author's date and signature in pencil: 1838 // Шевченко.

Former owner of the work W. Batsmanov supposed that the portrait depicts daughter of leib-medic Fedorov [Vladych L. Two unknown portraits by T. Shevchenko / Visual Arts. – 1940. – № 2. – S. 25]. There are no documentary evidence for this suggestion.

First mentioned in 1939 in connection with exhibiting at the Jubilee Shevchenko Exhibition [Komsomolets Ukraine. – 1939. – March].

Reproduced for the first time in 1940 by L. Vladych [Vladych L. Two unknown portraits by T. Shevchenko. – S. 27].
