Right beneath the author's date and signature in ink: 1838 // Т. Шевченко; below: RM and inscription in ink: 2347. In the middle of the back stamp: Museum Inventory number 56 Institute of Taras Shevchenko Kiev, inscription in pencil bottom right: 2347 and with the other hand: 56.

Nikolai Lunin (1789 – 1848) – master of the horse of the imperial court, cousin of Decembrist M.S. Lunin. Shevchenko could acquaint with N.A.Lunin by V.A.Zhukovsky or M.Ju.Wielgorski who also served at the court [Sudak W. Depicted person and his official position was clarified by M.M. Novitsky on the base of court uniform items and the Order of St.Anne 1st degree to which N.A. Lunin awarded April 3, 1838 [List of chevalliers of Russian Imperial and tsar's orders all titles by 1843 g. – St. Petersburg., 1844. – P. 4. – S. 40]
