Under the image with ink, presumably by the hand of G.M. Chestahivsky inscription: Mazepa and Vojnarovsky; upper right in ink: Number 115, I (similar mark in the picture "Ivan Mazepa and Karl XII"); left in pencil: 182 × 263.

At the middle of the page – outline of female figures; on the right – a sketch depicting Ivan Mazepa and his nephew Andrew Vojnarovsky speaking with the Cossacks captured after the defeat at Poltava. Episode match the poem: [Ryleev K.F. Vojnarovsky. – SPb., 1825. – p. 32]

Left more processed hetman's bust, evidence the likelihood that the artist was going to continue to work on this subject.

Tentatively dated by the end of 1841 – the beginning of 1843 for pictures on the back of the sheet.

First mentioned by M.K. Chaly with the name "Mazepa and Wojnarowski", who saw it in M.M. Lazarevsky in July 1861 [Chaly M. Life and works of Taras Shevchenko. – K., 1882. – p. 279 – 280]

In PZT called "Interrogation of prisoners". Illustration to the poem "Wojnarowski" by K.F. Ryleev. [Shevchenko T. Complete Works: in 10 volumes. – K., 1961. – Vol. 7, bk. 2. – p. 30 – 31. – № 274].

Storage areas: from April 1861 – property of M.M.Lazarevsky, later purchased by St. Petersburg's Ukrainian community, not earlier than July 1861 – A.O. Kozachkovsky, not later than 1875 came to V.P. Kakhovski; from 1891 Kakhovski family, not later than 1893 transferred to S.D. Brazol; since 1898 – a collection of V. Tarnowskі; from 1899 – V. Tarnowski's Chernihiv museum of ukrainian antiquities, 1925 – Chernihiv Historical Museum, 1933 – Gallery of pictures by T.H. Shevchenko (Kharkiv), from 1948 – State Museum of T.H. Shevchenko (Kyiv).
