On the back a picture Shevchenko recorded in pencil engraved on the chalice inscription, that it was made in 1697 by the will of hetman I.Mazepa.
About this inscription and location of chalice see in Shevchenko's records made during his visit to Chernihiv, showing that chalice belonging to the church s Mokhnatyn (now Chernigov district and region), and in the first half of XIX century was in Chernihiv, where Shevchenko drawed it in February – April 1846.
