On the back of the ink inscription relating to this picture: Bank of the Dnieper. // Figure of Taras Shevchenko. Leaf from his album with nature.

A sheet with this picture was present between the third and fourth sheets of album 1839 – 1843's and was torn from it before numbering. This sheet is now stored in the National museum of Taras Shevchenko. It's affiliation to the album proved the same quality of paper sizes and complete coincidence gap on the edge of the sheet of paper to break the fourth album.

Etude is one of the sketches for which Shevchenko performed etching "In Kyiv" for the album "Picturesque Ukraine", which predetermines its date – 1843. Refine time within the year – summer months – is claimed as depicted nature and presence in the picture scantily clad figures on the bank of the Dnieper.
