Below in the middle etched author's stroke signature and date: Taras Shevchenko. 1860.

Etching done by photograph 1858 – 1859, from which was created a M. Mikeshin's drawing 1859 (woodcut reproduction in E. Hohenfelden "Kobzar of Taras Shevchenko at the expense of Platon Semerenko", SPB., 1860).

The date specified on the basis of an inscription on one of Shevchenko's prints of this etching of later condition stored in the collections of the Shevchenko State Museum (USSR Academy of Sciences, Kyiv), inv. number g – 303 (see image and comment to the next portrait).

Previous storage: Tarnowski's Museum of Ukrainian antiquities in Chernigov – № 458, Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum, Gallery of paintings by T. Shevchenko (Kharkiv).

The State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) posessed similar to the described self-portrait print (inv. – 8146), on the back of which is written in red pencil autograph of the first, draft version of the Shevchenko's poem "Once something else….
