About altarpiece crucifix that Shevchenko had a desire to perform for Orenburg church, he recalls letter to V. M. Repnina from 7.III 1850.
After Orenburg arrest picture could be stored in K. I. Gern, who later turned Shevchenko all his stuff: "All the former in my saving designs, the papers I returned to him" ["Letters to the K. I. Gern to M. M. Lazarevsky about Shevchenko", "Kyiv antiquity", 1899, Vol. 2, p. 69].
In describing Shevchenko things by G. M. Chestahivsky (№ 57) wrongly stated that the picture is made in Novopetrovsk fortification, ie 1850 – 1857.
In the "Product of Shevchenko exhibition in Moscow on occasion of 50th anniversary of his death" [Moscow, 1911, p. 12, № 180] registered under the name of "Death of a savior," in A. Novitsky ["Taras Shevchenko as a painter," Lviv – Moscow, 1914, p. 73, № 524, Table. 68] entitled "The Death of Christ."
In literature there is mention of the implementation of the icons of the crucifixion [K. Sherotsky, Shevchenko – artist, "Russian bibliophile", 1914, № 1, p. 42].
